Steak and Potatoes – a study in Romans: Following the Spirit (week 7)

Gracepointkitsap   -

Welcome Back!!!

Welcome to a New LifeGroup Session!

Before we jump into our study, let’s take a moment to remember that there are THREE things we want to see happen every time our LifeGroups gather:

– Movement towards Each Other
– Movement towards God
– Movement towards our Community

Our questions follow this same format. All of the questions are designed towards movement. We hope you enjoy your time together in your LifeGroup.
**Remember, our goal is to deepen our relationship with Jesus and each other. Use the questions that are help and skip the rest.

CURRENT SERIES: Steak & Potatoes – a study in Romans

This 12 week series will look at the major themes in the book of Romans. This Epistle provides the fullest explanation of the gospel in the New Testament. It pulls no punches while describing man’s condition, the cause and effect of sin, and the transformational power of the gospel.

Last Week: Where will the battle rage for you this week? How can Jesus help you win?

Two Weeks Ago: Is there habitual sin that is weighing you down? Spend some time talking to God this week. Memorize 1 Corinthians 10:13

Key Verse:

There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.Romans 8:1

Movement Towards Each Other (know the people in your group)
Which is better, stick shift or automatic?

Movement Towards God (grow in your relationship with God)
Have you ever been given bad directions? How did it go?
Do you turn down the radio in your car when you are lost?
When you travel, are you more direction based or fly by the seat of your pants based?
How did that start?
What are the advantages to your “system”?
How many of you have GPS in your car? How often do you use it?
How do directions help us when we travel somewhere we’ve never been?
Read Romans 8:1-4
What has Christ done for us?
How does that point us in a direction?
Read verse 1-2 again. What does it mean to be condemned?
What does it mean to be set free?
Barry said, “In Christ, you are no longer defined by what you’ve done wrong but defined by what JESUS did right”. What does that mean to you?
If we are set free from our past sins, why do we keep looking back at them?
How does that get us off course from where God wants us to go?
Read Romans 8:5-6
What does it mean to “set your mind” on something?
How does the Holy Spirit guide our lives?
What happens if we don’t listen to the Holy Spirit?
How does sin try to rob us of our peace?
How does setting our mind on the Holy Spirit give us peace?
How can that knowledge give you direction in your life this week?

Movement Towards Community (they see the change in you)
How is your direction in life? Where could you use some peace? Talk to God about it this week.
