OUR STORY

Our Story

GracePoint Church has a rich history. In 1904, a circuit rider named Antone Linn began to preach in and around the Olympic Peninsula. Soon afterward, a church was formed and called itself Silverdale Gospel Tabernacle. Just like Kitsap County, our church began to experience growth during and following World War 2. It was during this time our church was renamed Silverdale Bible Church. In 1971, our name was changed once again to Silverdale Baptist Church.

In 1976, a young pastor named Curt DeGraaff became our senior pastor. Under his leadership our church in Old Town Silverdale soon reached its capacity. Property for a new church location was purchased in Bremerton and in 1989 we opened our doors at our current location. In 2003, Pastor DeGraaff moved to lead another ministry in Kentucky, serving at our church for a total of 26 years.

In 2005, Barry Bandara became our Lead Pastor. In 2008 our church services reached capacity once again and we began exploring the process of expanding our facilities to reach more people in our county with the life-changing gospel of Jesus Christ.

After much research along with church and community involvement, in April of 2013 we changed our name to GracePoint Church as a better reflection of our vision and mission. Five months later we broke ground to start Phase One of our building expansion.

In 2015, we celebrated the Grand Opening of our new auditorium, lobby, along with much needed bathrooms. The size of the new auditorium nearly doubled our seating capacity from before. We are grateful to reach more people with the gospel of Christ!

In 2022, we launched our next building phase as part of our Horizon Initiative. Our goal was to pay cash for the complete renovation of our downstairs Student Center and adding a completely new Children’s Ministry Center in our old auditorium. In January 2024, we had our Grand Opening of these two ministry environments, having met our goal of paying cash!
We are grateful for our heritage and how God has blessed our church in so many ways. We are excited for the future ahead!
