Steak and Potatoes – a study in Romans: Freedom in Christ (week 5)

Gracepointkitsap   -

Welcome Back!!!

Welcome to a New LifeGroup Session!

Before we jump into our study, let’s take a moment to remember that there are THREE things we want to see happen every time our LifeGroups gather:

– Movement towards Each Other
– Movement towards God
– Movement towards our Community

Our questions follow this same format. All of the questions are designed towards movement. We hope you enjoy your time together in your LifeGroup.
**Remember, our goal is to deepen our relationship with Jesus and each other. Use the questions that are help and skip the rest.

CURRENT SERIES: Steak & Potatoes – a study in Romans

This 12 week series will look at the major themes in the book of Romans. This Epistle provides the fullest explanation of the gospel in the New Testament. It pulls no punches while describing man’s condition, the cause and effect of sin, and the transformational power of the gospel.

Last Week: Whether you are in a difficult situation or just came through it, how would you articulate your hope? Write a note to yourself for the next time a trial comes your way.

Two Weeks Ago: Who do you know in your life that needs to hear the Good News of Jesus Christ? Pray for an opportunity to share with them this week

Key Verse:

We know that our old self was crucified with him in order that the body of sin might be brought to nothing, so that we would no longer be enslaved to sin.Romans 6:6

Movement Towards Each Other (know the people in your group)
If you could change your name to something new, what would it be?

Movement Towards God (grow in your relationship with God)
What is a habit/routine you have that you enjoy?
How did that habit start?
Is it something you do every day?
What happens if you break your routine?
How do you get back on track?
What is a habit you wish did have in your life?
Who do you know that already has that habit in place?
What do you think it would take for you to get started?
Read Romans 6:1-4
What did Jesus do for us on the cross?
Why is that important?
Read Romans 6:5-7, 11
What does it mean to be “enslaved” to something?
What does it mean to be set free?
How does Jesus set us free from sin?
If we have been set free (and we have), then why do I keep going back to sin?
Does sin have the same grip on me? How?
Read Romans 6:12; James 1:13-16; 1 Corinthians 10:13
What is temptation?
Is temptation sin?
How does God help us when we are tempted?
How does this give us hope?
Read 2 Corinthians 5:17
What does it mean to be a new Creation?
How does this help us form new habits to say no to sin?

Movement Towards Community (they see the change in you)
Is there habitual sin that is weighing you down? Spend some time talking to God this week. Memorize 1 Corinthians 10:13
