Steak and Potatoes – a study in Romans: Greater Purpose (week 8)

Gracepointkitsap   -

Welcome Back!!!

Welcome to a New LifeGroup Session!

Before we jump into our study, let’s take a moment to remember that there are THREE things we want to see happen every time our LifeGroups gather:

– Movement towards Each Other
– Movement towards God
– Movement towards our Community

Our questions follow this same format. All of the questions are designed towards movement. We hope you enjoy your time together in your LifeGroup.
**Remember, our goal is to deepen our relationship with Jesus and each other. Use the questions that are help and skip the rest.

CURRENT SERIES: Steak & Potatoes – a study in Romans

This 12 week series will look at the major themes in the book of Romans. This Epistle provides the fullest explanation of the gospel in the New Testament. It pulls no punches while describing man’s condition, the cause and effect of sin, and the transformational power of the gospel.

Last Week: How is your direction in life? Where could you use some peace? Talk to God about it this week.

Two Weeks Ago: Where will the battle rage for you this week? How can Jesus help you win?

Key Verse:

And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose.Romans 8:28

Movement Towards Each Other (know the people in your group)
If you could ask God one question, what would it be?

Movement Towards God (grow in your relationship with God)
Where were you born?
How long did you live there?
What does it mean to have purpose in your life?
Have you ever met someone who doesn’t have “purpose”? Someone who has purpose?
What was the difference between the two?
Read Romans 8:16-17
If you could ask God one question, what would it be?
What does it mean to be an heir of God?
How does that give our lives purpose?
Read Genesis 3:14-9; Romans 8:18-22
What is the origin of suffering?
What does it mean to suffer?
Can we escape it? Why?
Does suffering have a purpose?
Read Romans 8:22-25
As a follower of Jesus, what does it mean to hope for something you can’t see?
Where does that force your attention (off what and onto what)?
How does that promise of future hope help us in our present suffering?
Read Romans 8:26
Have you ever been in a spot where you don’t know what to pray?
How does the Holy Spirt help us where we are suffering?
Read Romans 8:28
Read the first phrase of that sentence again. What does it mean to “know”?
Why is that important?
Does anything slip through the cracks with God? How do you know?
What does God’s good and God’s purpose mean?
How does that give us comfort?
Who in your life needs to hear that promise?

Movement Towards Community (they see the change in you)
Is there someone in your life (you or others) that needs to hear the HOPE of God’s purpose? How can you share that this week?
