SECURE ME – SECURELY INSECURE (WEEK 1)
Welcome to a New LifeGroup Session!
Before we jump into our study, let’s take a moment to remember that there are THREE things we want to see happen every time our LifeGroups gather:
– Movement towards Each Other
– Movement towards God
– Movement towards our Community
Our questions follow this same format. All of the questions are designed towards movement. We hope you enjoy your time together in your LifeGroup.
**Remember, our goal is to deepen our relationship with Jesus and each other. Use the questions that are help and skip the rest.
CURRENT SERIES: Secure Me
Everyone struggles with insecurity. As soon as you read that something popped into your head. I believe that insecurity is part of the original sin of mankind. We had security in God, then we lost it and we’ve been trying to get it back ever since. It’s about all of us dealing with our insecurity and how we can learn to live securely in God when we understand where that security truly comes from and how it can change our lives.
Last Week:
Is there a place in your life where you are trying to replace God with earthly comfort?
Two Weeks Ago:
Read Psalm 139 every day this week. Identify an area where man’s approval has become important, and ask God to fill it for you.
Key Verse:
“because they exchanged the truth about God for a lie and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever! Amen.” Romans 1:25
Movement Towards Each Other (know the people in your group)
If wearing a seatbelt wasn’t a law, would you still wear it?
Movement Towards God (grow in your relationship with God)
Growing up, did you live in a secure or insecure environment?
What was something you were insecure about in Junior High?
How did you get past it?
Do you think we ever grow out of insecurity?
Read Romans 1:21-25
Where do you see insecurity in the world?
Why does pursuing security through the world only lead to more insecurity?
What does it mean to exchange the truth about God for a lie?
Where could that potentially show up in your world?
Read Genesis 1:26-30; 2:8-9, 15, 25
How could Adam and Eve have everything and still feel insecure?
Read Genesis 3:5
How was being “like” God a cheap substitute for security?
What is a need in your life that you think you can supply better than God?
Why do we try to supply our own need for security?
Read Philippians 4:19; John 16:33
Does a relationship with God mean a trouble free life?
What does it mean for God to supply what we need?
How does that give us security?
What if God doesn’t give us what we think we need?
How does THAT give us security?
Read Matthew 11:28-29
What does it mean for you to have rest for your soul?
How come Jesus is the only one who can supply that?
Movement Towards Community (they see the change in you)
