Illusions (Part 1) – BEHIND THE MASK

Gracepointkitsap   -

Welcome to a New LifeGroup Session!

Before we jump into our study, let’s take a moment to remember that there are THREE things we want to see happen every time our LifeGroups gather:

– Movement towards Each Other
– Movement towards God
– Movement towards our Community

Our questions follow this same format. All of the questions are designed towards movement. We hope you enjoy your time together in your LifeGroup.
**Remember, our goal is to deepen our relationship with Jesus and each other. Use the questions that are help and skip the rest.

CURRENT SERIES: Illusions – Falling for a Believable Lie

Satan is the master illusionist. He is always trying to get us to believe something that isn’t true so that we will do something that isn’t smart. He offers us something of temporary value in order for us to give him something of permanent value. This series will pull the mask off of Satan’s lies that many believe.

Last Week:
What was your favorite Christmas memory?

Two Weeks Ago:

Key Verse:

and you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” John 8:32

Movement Towards Each Other (know the people in your group)
What’s the best practical joke you’ve pulled on someone?

Movement Towards God (grow in your relationship with God)
Have you ever been to a magic show?
What was it like?
Would you rather know how the tricks are performed or just stay amazed? Why?
Have you ever believed something to be true only to later find out it wasn’t?
How did that make you feel?
Read John 8:31-32
What does this verse mean?
Have you ever doubted God?
How does His “Truth” set us free?
Read John 8:33-36
Do you believe we can be free from sin (not sinning, but the pull of sin)?
How does that work?
Read John 10:10; 1 Peter 5:8
What is the big contrast in these two passages?
If satan is so bad for us, why do we allow him so much influence in our lives?
Read John 15:4-5; 8:44
What are our options?
What is satan’s ultimate desire for us?
Why then is it so easy to give into sin?
Read 2 Corinthians 2:11; 1 Corinthians 9:24-27; 1 John 4:4
What happens when we stop believing the devil’s lies and lean into Jesus?
Where do you need to apply that principle in your life?

Movement Towards Community (they see the change in you)
What lie (habit) have you allowed in your life that you think is “ok” but you know it’s not? Isn’t it time to stop believing the lie? Talk to God. Start 2020 fresh. Memorize John 8:32.
